New World Systems proudly congratulates Roanoke County, Va. Communications and IT Director Bill Greeves for being named by Government Technology magazine in its annual list of the Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers for 2010. Selected for his achievements in connecting public sector IT employees through his organization MuniGov, Greeves was also recognized for his innovative thinking and efforts as the head of a new Communications and Information Technology Department responsible for the Roanoke County Emergency Communications Center (ECC).
A New World Systems customer since 2005, the ECC is merging services with the Town of Vinton under Greeves’ management and guidance. After conducting nine months of careful research to determine the benefits to both the Town and the ECC, Greeves’ team received approval from the agencies to proceed with the 911 dispatch center consolidation.
“Consolidation is a growing trend among dispatch agencies and local government departments nationwide,” said Bill Greeves. “We will certainly be able to save money and provide better service to our citizens. We spent a lot of time making sure this was a good decision for everyone and the consolidation was unanimously approved.”
Consolidating will allow both agencies to save money, share resources that are already in place at the County, and improve service to their public safety agencies. The Town of Vinton’s dispatchers will move into the ECC’s new state-of-the-art Communications Center and join County dispatchers using New World Systems’ Aegis/MSP® Public Safety Solution on the Microsoft® platform.
“New World’s software made this consolidation possible,” explained Greeves. “Their Computer Aided Dispatch solution is perfect for multi-jurisdictional situations. We can provide consolidated call taking and dispatching services, but also separate calls for analyzing and reporting purposes.”
According to Greeves, the Town of Vinton Police are impressed by New World’s software and are looking forward to replacing their old system. The solution’s flexibility, stability and ease of use make it key to the success of merging the two agencies.
“New World Systems supports the growing trend in agency consolidation nationwide by providing the industry’s most technologically advanced solutions and world-class support both during consolidation and for decades after,” said Mark Prevost, Vice President of Marketing for New World Systems. “Hundreds of New World customers use our solutions in demanding multi-jurisdictional situations every day. These agencies have recognized substantial cost savings, increased interoperability, and significant efficiency benefits through coming together on the same advanced Public Safety Software solutions. New World is pleased to congratulate Bill Greeves for his leadership, accomplishments and recognition, and we look forward to continuing to build on our relationship with Roanoke County for many years to come.”
The Town of Vinton is home to more than 7,000 of the over 90,000 Roanoke County residents. Roanoke County’s ECC receives approximately 230,000 calls for service a year and is one of 63 public safety communications centers in the country that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. After consolidation, the Town of Vinton will not only benefit from the use of New World’s solutions, but also from the County’s accreditations.
“Agency consolidation inevitably leads to cost savings because you are eliminating the duplication of effort, sharing expensive resources and using personnel wisely,” said Greeves. “Ultimately, our main goal was not just to save money, but to provide better service to our public safety agencies and citizens.”
