Manteca, California, is a community accustomed to change.

With a growing population of more than 40,000, Manteca is fast becoming a popular place to live, as a result of its close proximity to many tourist attractions, businesses, industries and cultural activities.

Situated in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley, Manteca is conveniently nestled between the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the east and the San Francisco Bay community to the west. Yosemite National Park and the Lake Tahoe Resort area are a short drive away and offer gaming, skiing, boating and other types of outdoor recreation.

In this fast developing community, the Manteca City Police Department helps maintain order and public safety for all its citizens. When the department needed to expand the functionality of its computer system to keep pace with the city's change, it turned to New World to provide its software solutions. New World helped Manteca City Police plan and implement CAD, Records Management, Mobile Computing and Field Reporting software.

One of the main objectives Manteca sought to accomplish with the new software application was the ability to convert to a "paperless" system. This would help reduce department clerical work that is often a burden for law enforcement personnel.

Manteca Police conducted extensive research into software providers and conducted several site visits in an effort to view product demonstrations. "We thought that New World gave us the best opportunity to become paperless," said Sgt. Zeb Hammonds of Manteca Police. "They were very honest with us from the beginning. We also chose New World because they offered the best price and software functionality."

New World supplied the police department with the training and customer service required to function in a timely manner.

"The training we received was really good, and we are very confident with New World. It has been a great working relationship," said Hammonds.

With New World's opening of a San Francisco Bay Area office in early 1999, onsite help is closer than ever. Sgt. Dave Thompson of Manteca Police said the new office should help New World introduce its many benefits to other public safety organizations in northern and central California.

"We're really pleased that New World has opened this office," Thompson said. "We're anxious to see many more users of their software in California. I would recommend it to my peers."

Department Records Clerk and Crime Analyst Linda Silva is happy the integrated system works from one shared database and provides instantaneous access for all departments.

"We were looking for the easiest way of getting information and they provided that for us," she said.
