Introduction
Not unlike many other local government entities, the City of Burnsville, Minnesota chose New World Systems' Logos Public Administration software to meet its current and future needs.
"Over the past eleven years, the City and New World has developed a strong relationship," said Tom Venables, IT coordinator. "New World has worked with us and other customers to create new software releases, incorporating many of our suggestions."
There are New World User Groups nationwide, which are comprised of organizations within the same region or state. The City of Burnsville has hosted many User Group Meetings for other Minnesota organizations and New World personnel. Generally, during the full-day meeting New World demonstrates new software, reviews products, and provides a question and answer session. Then, New World's customers have the opportunity to discuss current and future needs.
"The User Group meetings are very informative and productive, because we have the opportunity to work with other users and New World," said Venables.
Overcoming Challenges
The City of Burnsville, a user of New World's Logos Utility Management software, needed additional functionality in the software to meet its requirements.
"During our last User Group Meeting, the Logos Utility Management functionality was a main topic," said Venables. "We created a list of must-have features and functions. We also explained to New World why and how these features could impact its entire Utility Management user base. It was great to see our suggestions incorporated in the next software release." "The City does not have its own purchasing department, and New World's software has given us the tool to meet our needs," said Venables. "New World's software is in a decentralized environment, which allows each department to enter and process its own requisitions, purchase orders and annual budgets."
Once information is entered into the system, it is tracked within the Logos Financial Management module for reporting and inquiry, saving the City time.
