The City of Bowling Green needed a solution that would enhance the way the city does business today and in the future.
New World Solution
In 1996, the City of Bowling Green licensed New World’s comprehensive and integrated Logos Financial Management and Human Resources solutions.
Community Benefits
New World Systems local government software provides the City of Bowling Green with many benefits that help save tax payer’s dollars. • Provides a decentralized environment, empowering departments to be in charge of their own information, from budgets to payroll • Enhances processes for employees, with the easy-to-use, automated solution • Enhances the reporting process with the ability to import and export data to Excel
Prior to licensing New World Systems' Logos® Financial Management and Human Resources software, the City of Bowling Green used software developed in-house. Due to the lack of resources on the administration staff, the data processing manager felt that licensing off-the-shelf software would increase productivity and make more efficient use of tax dollars.
Bowling Green was the beta site for the first release of the Logos Y2K compliant Payroll software. "I had the opportunity to start the payroll process from the beginning," said Becky Underwood, finance director. "Although it was challenging, I learned a lot about the system, and I could easily understand the enhancements our department would benefit from."
New World's Human Resources/Payroll application provided the municipality with the ability to make payroll deductions adjustments and to easily generate refunds without going through multiple processes. Prior to New World's software, Bowling Green was processing two separate payrolls - one for the utility department and one for non-utility personnel, but now more than 280 payroll checks are be generated in one seamless process.
"The Payroll software let us provide better services to our employees," said Underwood. "We can easily run various deduction scenarios to show employees what their net pay would be. This helps people make better decisions."
"New World's prevalent asset is their employees," said Underwood. "During the implementation, New World's project management team provided us with hands-on training, and they were knowledgeable of the system. Whatever questions we had or processes we needed, they had an answer and process for us."
Bowling Green is a university community with nearly 30,000 citizens, half of which are students. The City has utilized Internet technology to allow citizens to interact with each other on issues that affect them.
