In 1998, the City of Rockwall, TX made the decision to look for a new software provider. The decision was prompted by two major factors, first their current software no longer fit their needs and more importantly, it was not Year 2000 compliant. Rockwall chose New World Systems' Logos Public Administration software to help them work more efficiently today, as well as enable them to grow in the future.

The city licensed New World's Logos Financial Management, Human Resources & Payroll, and Utility Management software packages on the IBM® iSeries platform, a fully integrated system allowing them to share information between departments.

"The software has greatly increased our productivity," said Mary Smith, City of Rockwall Finance Director. "With our old system, other departments always had to come to us for information they needed. Now, all department heads can access the system to obtain information and generate reports on their own. Additionally, all purchase orders are now done online, permitting the purchasing agent to handle large purchases and bids, rather than getting bogged down in paperwork."

The city chose New World because the software offered the functionality they were looking for, and it was user-friendly. Rockwall needed a system that would support the city's increasing population, which is one of the biggest challenges they expect to face in the coming years. At present, the population is approximately 18,000. But they are growing at a rate of 8% - 10% a year and expect the population to reach 60,000 within the next 20 years. They needed a system that could keep up with their fast-paced growth rate.

Right from the very beginning things went smoothly. In fact, Rockwall personnel and the New World Team had such a good time together during the implementation process, they even made up T-shirts, celebrating the success of going live with the new software.

"I truly enjoyed the entire implementation process," said Smith. "I can't speak highly enough of the trainers we had on site, they were excellent."

The support Rockwall has received since going live continues to be an equally positive experience.

"Support staff is quick to respond and sticks with issues until they are resolved," said Smith. "New World always gets back to us in a timely manner with solutions."

Although Rockwall is the county seat in the smallest county in Texas, only 12 square miles, their location on the shore of Ray Hubbard Lake makes them a prime recreational destination. Sailing events and other waterfront activities have contributed to making the City of Rockwall a popular place for those looking to escape the faster-paced city life of nearby Dallas.
